...serenity in motion
If you have followed my blog over the years, (it has been 6 of them btw) you know that I believe in thinning my inventory. I have proposed "The Fire", just tossing or redoing but sometimes, the work is just too good to destroy or throw away. I was invited to a holiday party this year and we all have stockings. There is a white elephant game but I realized that this party was a bit different. I saw some of the things going into the stockings we all have and decided to take advantage of a unique opportunity. I went through all of my "smalls" and picked out several to give as gifts.
I asked the hostess about the idea and she was at first opposed. "Can't you sell them? Put them in a gallery somewhere." I don't do these anymore so they just don't fit anywhere. I have decided to go big and having all of these small to tiny sizes doesn't make sense anymore. She became pretty excited about the idea. "I can't imagine anyone being upset by anything you want to give." I was told. So into my inventory I went. It was fun, going through the past and pulling out things that I hoped people would love. I never wanted to burn these because I thought they represented some of the best things from my past. I have hung them at shows but no one really sees them anymore and since I am going bigger, they were rather anomalous amongst the newer inventory.
I still have quite a few (there are a lot of them) and there were a few that I wasn't sure were good enough, I may rework them in time. I hope they make people happy, I had fun painting them. I don't know if other artists have ever wanted to do this or not but there it is. Happy holidays, I hope you enjoy your gifts.
