Find Something Beautiful in your Life and Nurture it.
I was working very hard on my last residence. I knew it wasn’t going be my last house, but it was the current house and my husband I did a lot of things to it. When I asked my best friend about it she said, “feather the nest that you are in.” I thought about it for a minute and then went to pick out paint. Someone much later told me to, Find something beautiful in your life and nurture it.” People do that all the time without thinking much on it. Being an artist, I am doing it all the time; nurturing beauty that is. I see an image that I want to paint and go to the easel but you don’t need to be an artist to do that.
My daughter in law does that, she crochets and makes patterns. She also helps my mother make a vegetable garden every year. You don’t have to paint to create something beautiful. That is what having hobbies is for, to create some sort of beauty in our lives. Being creative helps our mental health, there are studies that prove it. The 60 year old who still works on model cars or even the real thing. The young man who makes knives, the girl who builds costumes to the kid who writes songs. Anytime you make, design, plant, build; you are using that part of your brain that helps your mental wellness.
There is a lot of ugly going on right now. We are tired and soul worn with all of the bad news, bad press, bad people doing bad things. In times like this where we don’t know where the world is going to end up next year, create something for no reason than it brings you peace. My front yard is what we nurture right now. My husband and I are carving out new flower beds. We are going to move around our plants and get new ones. I have been told 2 things consistently, I over plant and “Wow, your garden looks beautiful!” In the beginning of May, I wandered around my flower beds welcoming the new growth. Not kidding; I actually say hello to each new flower. The beauty of it takes me out of myself and gives me a moment to focus on something that is simply pretty.
Give your self a break and follow the blogs title. We all need something that we can nurture, if only to give us the realization that we each can bring beauty into the world and keep it going. Be at peace, enjoy today.
